5 Facts About Fresh Beef Dog Food

At Wag Tantrum, we like to keep dog food simple – limited ingredients and no preservatives, artificial colors or fillers. It just doesn’t take a laundry list of ingredients to meet your dog’s nutritional needs and our beef dog food contains only the essentials. Here’s a quick look at why beef dog food, especially fresh beef dog food, can be a great option for your beloved companion.

1. Beef Offers High Nutritional Value

Beef packs a huge nutritional punch, providing your dog with an excellent source of protein as well as niacin, vitamins B6 & B12, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, iron, potassium, pantothenic acid, magnesium, thiamin, folate and copper. Beef is one of the most well-rounded ingredients for dogs, and their bodies can digest high-quality beef very easily.

While humans are told to eat a varied diet with a plethora of whole grains, dogs don’t need as much grains or fiber as humans. In fact, if your dog digests too much fiber, this can cause issues such as constipation or diarrhea. Furthermore, humans have tons of enzymes whose sole purpose is breaking down carbohydrates, and dogs have far fewer of these enzymes. This is why beef is the star of our organic dog food.

However, this doesn’t mean that dogs necessarily need a grain-free diet. Our dog food includes organic grains for their heart health, but unlike many heavily processed dog foods, we have selected grains that provide the highest nutritional value and ensured that the amount of grain is in line with your dog’s carbohydrate needs. We know there’s a lot of buzz around the “grain-free” dog food movement, but unless your dog is allergic to grains (and this is rare), it’s best to include some healthy organic grains in their diet.

2. Limited Ingredients = Fewer Allergies

If you look at the labels for kibble or canned dog food (even the organic brands), you will see a huge list of ingredients, and these foods often contain gluten or grain. If you have a dog with allergies or a sensitive stomach, there are so many ingredients in these foods that it can be tough to isolate which ingredients aren’t agreeing with your furry friend.

With fresh beef dog food, we include only a handful of ingredients including USDA organic beef, organic brown rice and organic veggies including broccoli, squash and carrots. Our beef quinoa variety includes USDA organic beef, organic quinoa and organic carrots, brussels sprouts, butternut squash, sweet potatoes and blueberries.

Aside from the organic beef, the benefits of which we explained earlier in this article, we chose these specific ingredients for their nutritional value and because these are foods that rarely cause any kind of allergic reaction in dogs. These are foods safe for dogs and foods they can digest easily. In fact, the veggies and fruit we chose can reduce digestive and allergy issues and provide your dog with antioxidants that can improve their health. We also add a careful selection of pharmaceutical-grade vitamins and minerals to each variety of our fresh dog food to ensure optimal nutrition.

Of course, a very small number of dogs will have digestive issues with beef and if that is the case for your dog, consider using our chicken dog food, which simply swaps out the beef for high-quality USDA organic chicken which contains no hormones or antibiotics. We partnered with experienced pet nutritionists to ensure that each variety of Wag Tantrum provides the nutrition your dog needs, as well as avoiding ingredients that are common allergens for dogs.

3. Fresh Beef Dog Food Is Safer Than Raw Food

These days, raw beef dog food is a huge trend, but opting for fresh beef dog food is a much safer option, both for your family and your precious pooch. Raw dog food often contains harmful bacteria that can make your dog sick or cross-contaminate surfaces in your home and introduce this bacteria into your human food.

While dogs in the wild might have eaten raw meat, their life expectancy was much lower, and these were wild dogs and not domesticated animals, which have much different nutritional needs and raw food just doesn’t provide them with the nutritional support that dog’s need to thrive.

Fresh dog food, on the other hand, has been cooked, but it’s not heavily processed like canned dog food or kibble. Basically, we prepare small batches of fresh gourmet dog food for your furry friend and then freeze them. The dog food arrives at your house frozen, and you just thaw each packet as needed for feeding. Keep in mind, while the meats (and quinoa or rice) are cooked, we do only cook the veggies lightly so that they maintain their fresh crunch.

4. The Costs Can Be Lower

While fresh dog food does come at a higher price than some other types of dog food, opting for beef dog food varieties can be a bit more affordable than opting for proteins such as bison or salmon, simply because beef is plentiful and finding affordable sources of high-quality beef is easier for dog food companies than more exotic proteins such as venison or duck and beef provides the quality nutrition dogs need, so there usually is no need to opt for these more exotic meat or poultry options unless recommended by your veterinarian for specific health reasons.

Again, it is essential that you purchase beef dog food from a company that you trust and purchase from brands that use only USDA-certified organic beef as this is the healthiest choice for your dog. Too often, companies choose suspect cuts of beef for their dog food, including leftover scraps and occasionally even meat from diseased animals. This is why we always recommend opting for USDA-certified organic beef to ensure that your dog is eating human-grade beef and not cheap quality bits of meat.

5. Dogs Love Beef & Wag Tantrum

If your dog is a picky eater and turns their snout up at kibble or squishy canned food, it’s easy to understand why. That heavily processed food doesn’t look appetizing and what dogs really crave is human food, so why not let them have it, within reason, of course?

Dogs love fresh beef, and our food contains human-grade organic beef, and all of our other ingredients are human-grade, as well. With Wag Tantrum, dogs can enjoy “human” food without the addition of other flavorings or ingredients such as onion and garlic, which can be toxic for dogs. If you have a picky eater, Wag Tantrum offers a safe, healthy option that provides them with complete nutritional support and, more importantly, they will gobble it up and truly enjoy suppertime.
